Mariah Carey is set to receive the MTV Video Vanguard Award at the 2025 VMAs and will perform a medley of her biggest hits for the first time in 20 years.
The Lambily eating GOOD this year. MTV just announced that the one and only Mariah Carey is getting the Video Vanguard Award at the 2025 VMAs. Big deal, y’all this is like a lifetime achievement for the girlies who changed the game.
Not only is Mimi getting honored, but sis is about to hit that stage and bless us with a full medley of her classics. We talking vocals, nostalgia, and probably a little shade if we’re lucky. See the promo video below.
This is her first VMA performance in 20 years, and if you remember, the last time she touched that stage, she and Whitney Houston had everybody gagging when they popped out in the same dress. Iconic.
And wait — Mariah’s not just collecting trophies, she’s still in the race too. She’s up for Best R&B Song with “Type Dangerous” off her upcoming album Here For It All (dropping Sept. 26).
It’s really a full-circle moment because back in the ‘90s, she actually handed this same Vanguard Award to LL Cool J. Now in 2025, LL is hosting the whole show, and Mariah is the moment.
The VMAs air live Sept. 7 on CBS and MTV (streaming on Paramount+). Outside of Mariah, the show’s stacked with performances from Sabrina Carpenter, J Balvin, Busta Rhymes, and more.
Bottom line? The Songbird Supreme is back, and the VMAs better be ready.
